We have spent the last year living in Nai Yang, so we have seen it at its best and worst. At best, the water is clear, and the white sand spotless. At worst, the water (especially after significant rain) will be murky. However, the water at Nai Yang is always cleaner than at Patong Beach (FYI)!
Nai yang is the perfect place for an overnight stop when arriving or leaving via the airport, as the Phuket International Airport is just up the road. In fact, there are many types of accommodation within walking distance of the airport. There are ample restaurants, bars, shopping, water sports and massage parlours nearby.
Beach
Nai Yang beach is a long expanse of semi-white sand. In the northwest monsoon, there may be swell. When there is swell, there are a couple of reef breaks on either side of the bay for surfing. It is also a popular place for kite surfing and wind foiling. However, during the southeast monsoon season, it is usually very calm. It makes a good anchorage for sail or motor vessels.
There are lifeguards on duty most of the time and stand-up paddle boards and kayaks for hire nearby.
Restaurants
Thai & international restaurants and food stalls line the beach, the main road and Walking Street, serving a large variety of food. Many restaurants on the beach have seating on the sand and are great places to watch the sunset.
Some of our favourites are Lee’s Pizzeria, Mama Nangs, Sea Almond, La Dolce Vita and Pasta.
Bars
Across the road from Walking Street is Sang See Bar. It is a favourite of ours. Further down the road, towards the southern end of the beach, you will find bars with pool tables and bar girls. And in Walking Street, there is now a karaoke bar. You will also find that many restaurants have happy hour in the afternoons with cocktails for ฿100, beer for ฿50, and spirits for ฿100.
Cannabis
If cannabis is your thing, it is easy to find in Nai Yang. Cannabis was legalised in Thailand in 2022. And since then, the shops have popped up everywhere. Be aware that it is considered a public nuisance and prohibited in public areas. Make an informed decision on whether to partake by reading more about the new laws at Wikipedia and Lonely Planet.
Massage Parlours
Many massage parlours line the main road, Walking Street, and the beach. Full body massage with oil costs ฿400 .
Markets
The main markets are a mere 10-minute (1.1km) walk from Nai Yang Beach. They are a great place to buy fresh and cooked food, as well as other market paraphernalia such as clothes and kitchenware. It is a great place to pick up a picnic dinner for the beach. Fried chicken, som tam salads, corn on the cob, fish cakes, sushi, Korean Chicken, curries, and so much more.
National Park
Sirinat National Park is an area of 90 square kilometres. The park includes four main beaches, including Nai Yang. Nai Yang Beach and Mai Khao are sea turtle nesting areas between November and February.
It costs ฿200 for foreigners to enter the park along the road. However, you can walk into the park along the beach. It has a lovely shady area, perfect for a picnic.
