About Us
The Captain and The Cook are Kelly and Dwayne Turpin. We have been living on our boat for almost ten years as we slowly travel around the world. We explore by land and sea and have visited 31 countries since we departed Adelaide, South Australia in 2014.
The Captain and The Cook inspire travellers to step off the beaten track, explore through culture and food, and meet local people. Predominately budget to midrange travel, we share practical travel advice and money-saving travel tips with our readers, thereby helping them get the best experience from a destination without breaking the bank.
Kelly has a Bachelor of Ecotourism, so it goes without saying that she has a passion for responsible tourism. Highlighting and encouraging sustainable tourism, educational attractions, and activities that support local communities are high on our touring agenda.
We are making a name for ourselves with reviews that are honest and straightforward. We are a trusted resource for travel tips, accommodation, destination guides and attractions. Our readers comment positively on the detailed blog post we write, saying that it is great to find all the information they need in one spot.
Our work has been featured on well-known travel sites such as Feet Do Travel, Tracy’s Travels In Time, In Africa and Beyond, PhilandGarth.com, Travelexx, Everyday Wanderer, and Bernard the Traveller.
We have been named one of the “19 most inspiring Instagram couples” for three years running and featured on the “Ultimate list of Travel Bloggers – Best Travel Blogs 2018.”
Currently, The Captain and The Cook are ambassadors for Dacoblue Fuel Bags, and Kelly has sold written content to Google’s new travel tool – Touring Bird.
