While sailing the Great Barrier Reef, we caught our first painted crayfish (aka Tropical rock lobster). We were sailing with Catamaran ‘Miss Polly’ and had stopped at a beautiful island in far north Queensland. Dwayne and I jumped straight into the beautifully inviting water for a snorkel. Dwayne bagged an approximately three-kilo crayfish. Yay!
Gerry and Polly from ‘Miss Polly’ joined us on the beach for a cook-up. We all enjoyed crayfish until we satiated and still had leftovers!
To cook it…
Dwayne cut the tail down the centre and washed it in the sea. He then spread it with garlic and butter and cooked it on the BBQ over a small fire.
We cooked the head/legs of the crayfish on hot coals and enjoyed a few drinks, and a bonfire while we waited for it to cook.
