Two of our sons came to visit the next day. Jedd, plus his friends Alex and Marie, and our Alex. We took them for a sail around the harbour and to the Sydney Fish Markets for lunch, where we gorged ourselves!
Previously – Cape Jervious, Wollongong, Port Hacking
We anchored the first night in Blackwattle Bay, near the Sydney Fish Markets, and headed into Darling Harbour for a look around.
Sydney Fish Markets
Two of our sons came to visit the next day. Jedd, plus his friends Alex and Marie, as well as our Alex. We took them for a sail around the harbour and to the Sydney Fish Markets for lunch, where we gorged ourselves!
We saw a lot of iconic Sydney, including Luna Park, the Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Anzac Bridge.
Vivid Sydney
We all went to town to check out Vivid Sydney (light festival). It was a short ferry ride over to Circular Quay, and, once there, it was almost impossible to move. The crowd was unbelievable!
We checked out the lights and did a bit of a pub crawl through Sydney. It seemed like they had most of the streets closed off to traffic to allow the people to walk on the roads (but I assume it was only a small part of Sydney). It was a great party atmosphere, and we all enjoyed ourselves!
The walk home took us across the Sydney Harbour Bridge and through the streets of Kirribilli, where Jedd found a possum and Alex picked the poor little thing up! Once the possum was safely back in his tree, we continued back to the boat to chat until the small hours of the morning and finally went to bed!
On Monday, Jedd, Marie and Alex left us to drive back to Aubrey. Our son Alex stayed on for a few more days. Tuesday, we three jumped on a train and went out to see Bondi Beach. Not much was happening there as the weather was not the best. Still a few die-hards in the water!
We walked back to the boat through Darling Harbour later that day.
The next day saw us walk to Central Station again, as Alex was catching the train to the airport and flying back to Adelaide. After leaving him to catch his train, Dwayne and I took a look at Paddy’s Markets and wandered back to the boat. We then sailed to Rose Bay that afternoon to shorten the following day’s trip to Pittwater.

Anchorage and Other Information
Royal Sydney Yacht Club – We came into the harbour in torrential rain and fog. Visibility was minimal. As we were members of the royal South Australia Yacht Club, we supposedly had reciprocal rights. We were not made very welcome. In the pouring rain, we were turned away by the marina manager because we didn’t have a letter introduction. When we asked if he could suggest a place to anchor for the night, he was unhelpful and said he didn’t know. We got a letter from our club the next day and stayed at the marina one night, taking the opportunity to top up with fuel. Good facilities and the majority of the staff were very friendly. However, we were not welcome there – the manager told us the members do not like other people using their marina space and we should move on. So we left.
Blackwattle Bay – Blackwattle Bay is a small anchorage near the Sydney Fish Markets. It is a good spot. I’m sure it would get unbearably busy during the busy season, but we anchored without a problem. It is an easy walk from the fish markets to Darling Harbour.
