The following 21 hotels offer budget accommodation or at least reasonably priced accommodation. Some of them are not worth staying at, read on to find out what we thought about cheap Thai accommodation. We book all our accommodation through booking.com and have certainly picked up some bargains during our travels. The price I quote is what we paid at the time. Most of our stays were in low season.
You can find some great deals on booking.com but do take the time to read the reviews and look at the reviewers’ photos if they post any. Finding the perfect room gets harder when you are on a budget, and you certainly have to make some sacrifices. All people are different and have different needs when it comes to finding that perfect room. Dwayne, my little princess, wants a modern room, flat screen TV with movies, A/C and a pool. I want a kettle, extra pillows and wifi if we don’t have our own. We look for a room that covers most of our wants and has good reviews. Like I mentioned earlier I think we have found some good bargains, but there are many more to be found on booking.com .

Patong
Cost – ฿550 per night
Pros – Good location. Large room with large ensuite bathroom. Fridge, kettle, complementary tea, coffee and bottled water. Wardrobe, desk, bedside tables, cushions, in room safe, small balcony and English channels and good movie channel. Pool, sun lounges and pool towels.
Cons – no lamps, very poor water pressure, and when we first arrived no flat screen TV. Instead old box TV with small screen and fuzzy reception. Advertising said flat screen TV and when we asked about it our TV was swapped for a flat screen asap.
Our verdict – We liked that is was very close to minimarts, night markets, restaurants, bars, money changer and massage parlours, but far enough away from Bangla Rd to be quiet. 10 minute walk to beach and 20 minute walk to Bangla road, Jungceylon Mall and cinema. Motorscooter hire, tuk tuks and taxis nearby.
Cost – ฿660 per night (Deluxe Room)
Pros – Nice size room with ensuite bathroom. A/C, in room safe, wardrobe, desk and refrigerator. Cable TV with English channels. Good wifi in the rooms. Balcony. Rooftop pool.
Cons – No kettle.
Our verdict – We like that this hotel is close to minimart, night markets, restaurant, bars, massage parlours, money changer, and transport, but still far enough away from Bangla Rd to be quiet. 10-minute walk to the beach and 15-minute walk to Bangla road, Jungceylon Mall and cinema.
Cost – ฿700 per night
Pros – Good size room with ensuite bathroom – with a bath. A/C, TV – many English channels, wardrobe, desk, comfortable bed, bedside tables, lamps and cushions. Fridge, kettle, mini bar. Nice modern bathroom, toilet, basin, bath, shower over bath. Pool, elevator, balcony.
Cons – We did have noisy guests arriving back at the hotel during the night… but we were not surprised by that, having chosen to stay in the heart of Patong.
Our verdict – Very good value and perfect for those visiting Patong for the nightlife. 2-minute walk to Jungceylon Mall and cinema. 5-minute walk to Bangla Rd. Very close to minimart, restaurants, bars, markets, beach.
Cost – ฿600 per night
Pros – Large bathroom with ensuite bathroom. A/C, flat screen TV, wardrobe, desk, in room safe, fridge, complimentary water. Elevator and pool.
Cons – No kettle, wifi very slow.
Our verdict – Great location if you want to party in Bangla Road and walk home. 2 minute walk to Jungceylon Mall and cinema. 5 minute walk to Bangla Rd. Very close to minimarts, restaurants, bars, markets, beach. Right in the heart of Patong. This hotel has two buildings, I think we were put in the older building. This hotel is right next to RCB…. I would choose RCB over this hotel.
Cost – ฿750 per night
Pros – Nice size room with private bathroom. Wardrobe, flatscreen cable TV, refrigerator, in room safe, hairdryer, wifi.
Cons – No kettle (free tea and coffee available in the lobby). In our room (twin was only available) the TV wasn’t in a good position, we couldn’t really lay in bed watching TV.
Our verdict -15-minute walk to the beach, less than a kilometre from Jungceylon Mall and cinema. Restaurants nearby. However, the location is not great and you can get better for the price we paid.
Cost – ฿400 per night
Pros – Large clean room with ensuite bathroom. The bed was comfortable.
Cons – The pool was in need of maintenance and a bit murky. Room was advertised as “soundproof”… It wasn’t and it was very noisy from the street. Room advertised as having cable TV but they were using a neighbouring hotel’s cable – and it wasn’t working.
Our verdict – Cheap, but not what we wanted. We booked for 3 nights but left after 1.

Pattaya
Cost – ฿630
Pros – Large room with ensuite bathroom. Good size bathroom, TV with English speaking channels. Including an Australian channel (we watched the Crows play the Demons!).
Cons – Breakfast is not served until 9am. Doesn’t suit us as we are early risers.
Our verdict – This hotel is on Jomtien Beach which we think is much nicer than Pattaya Beach. I don’t think we could have gotten a better place for the price we paid.
Cost – ฿1360 per night
Pros – Great location if you want to be near Pattaya beach and the bars etc. Breakfast included was ok. The room had an ensuite bathroom. 24-hour front deck that provides safety deposit boxes.Outdoor pool and 24-hour minimart.
Cons – Small room, aged furniture and an old box TV without a decent English channel. No in room safe. Nothing really nice about the stay at all.
Our verdict – Not budget accommodation and definitely not worth what we paid. I suppose it was the location we paid for but it really was very overpriced! 200 m from Pattaya Beach and 15 minutes’ walk from the Walking Street.
Bangkok
Cost – ฿900 per night
Pros – Modern room with a private bathroom. A/C, fridge, settee, desk, wardrobe and in-room safe.TV good with English channels. Good lighting. Good clean crisp sheets. Free morning snack of tea, coffee, toast and cookies are served downstairs in the foyer. Good location 10-minute walk from Khaosan Road.
Cons – The bathroom needed a good clean. Mould in the shower and behind toilet seat filthy. Wifi was useless. The double bed is pushed up against one wall which is very annoying for the person having to get out of the bed.
Our verdict – Ok, but have had better for this price.
