The year 2016 was a busy one! We managed 4500 sea miles, 603km by train, 14700km by plane and 3115km by automobiles (including 1065km on scooters!)
I’m not going to tell you we flew from Adelaide (Australia) to Phuket (Thailand) to Penang (Malaysia), then ferry to Langkawi and then sailed to Phuket, via Koh Rok and Koh Muk, and then to Koh Phayam, Koh Surin, Koh Similan and then sailed to Pulau Weh in Indonesia and then back to Phuket and then to flew to Chiang Mai in Thailand and then explored Laos, and then back to Thailand (Ubon Ratchathani, Pattaya and Bangkok) and then back to Phuket and then sailed to Langkawi via, Koh Phanak, Koh Hong, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lanta and Koh Lipe and then sailed to Pattaya via Pulau Redang and Koh Samui and flew back to Langkawi and then sailed to Phuket and then to Koh Phi Phi, Railay Bay and then back to Langkawi and then to Penang and then to Langkawi and then sailed to Pattaya via Pulau Tioman and Terenaggnu and went to Bangkok and then flew to Langkawi and then went to Koh Lipe and then sailed to Phuket!….. because that would be boring. I am simply going to show you some of the highlights from our year of travelling and sailing! Hope you enjoy our photo journey!

Sailing SV Savannah
We sailed SV Savannah from Phuket to Pattaya. She is a lovely boat, but had been sitting unused for three years before being bought by the new owners. If it could breakdown or go wrong it did! However, we met some awesome people and did have a lot of fun.
Sailing SV Dreamtime
We sailed SV Dreamtime, a Beneteau, from Langkawi to Pattaya. It was not the best time of year to do the Gulf of Thailand and the conditions were a little rough…. “Never again” said Kelly! However, once again we had the opportunity to meet lovely people and even had delicious Thai food home-cooked for us!
Sailing SV Thorfinn
Our much loved yacht and home, Thorfinn, had a few problems this year. The engine over heating due to ???? (still unsure!) Batteries were overcharging due to the faulty alternator. But it was nothing that wasn’t able to be fixed. We also re-galvanized our anchor chain in Penang, and replaced our Aires self-steering (which was cracked) with a secondhand system we found in Phuket. We have finally fixed the GPS system and have bought a new wind instrument…. now Dwayne just has to install it! Full time travelling on your yacht is a little like being a snail…. you take your home with you and there is always maintenance and “house” work to be done! As I like to say…. it’s not all palm trees and cocktails! However, it is all an inspiring experience and we are thankful for the wonderful life we have. 2016 was another awesome year and to 2017 we say bring it on!
Thank you for your support in 2016 and we hope you will share 2017 with us… We are not sure yet where 2017 will take us, but we are super excited about it! At this stage we do know it will include Bali, Australia and New Zealand! Happy New Year everyone!
