While we were berthed in Senibong Cove Marina, Malaysia, we decided to go to Singapore for a couple of nights. It is a short, cheap bus ride across the border. That said, it took us nearly three hours of travel before we were in our hotel room. We arrived late in the day, and by that time, Dwayne was hot and bothered and very close to packing a tantrum… so I got him a nice cold beer and let him relax for a while before we went out to explore our surroundings. Singapore has so many interesting buildings.
The following day we caught the MRT as well as buses and walked. Our first stop was Jurong Bird Park. It was pretty impressive. They put on excellent bird shows with the birds of prey, the hornbills, and the toucans. The highlight for me was seeing the Shoebill… it looks prehistoric!
There were many walk-through aviaries. Dwayne enjoyed visiting the rosellas as they became quite attached to him. But he soon found out they had a hard bite.
We spent four hours checking it out… two hours longer than Dwayne had allocated us. We had lunch at a food court in the mall. Dwayne found a delicious soup on the aptly named Glutton Street. Then it was back on the MRT again for a trip to Chinatown.
Chinatown was like all the other Chinatowns. Full of food stalls, restaurants, and all types of souvenirs. After looking around and buying a few souvenirs, we found some delicious food to try.
The next day we packed up and took the monorail to Sentosa Island, where we just relaxed and had a swim. Then began our journey back to the Marina at Senibong Cove, where Thorfinn was waiting for us. Next up – Sebana Marina and Malaysia.
